Undergraduate / 10th Grade Paper - "What is something that has impacted your life?" [5]

How My Life Was Affected By My Sister

Sitting in a grandma's house usually sounds boring to people. They smell old people and have to yell twice as loud for their grandma to hear them. Not to me though, not with my grandma. I love going to her house, pictures of family members hanging on every wall and hidden in drawers were found everywhere I looked. The smell of food lingered in the house, something new every couple hours. Her yard is a beautiful, big, colorful garden full of flowers and trees. The biggest reason why I love her house though is because that is where I found out I had a big sister, through one picture.

The picture was of me, my dad, and some weird girl a couple years older than me sitting on an old chair, myself a baby and her a toddler. My dad was holding me and that girl.

"Who's that?", I asked my grandmother.
"Who's who?", she asked as she walked over to me.
"That girl.", I replied.

"Oh, that's your sister, Tanisha." She said it so plainly, as if a "duh" answer. I only believed I had 3 brothers, I never knew I had a sister. This was a major shock to me. My grandma explained to me that she was my sister from my dad, and that they never get to see her because her mom and our dad had complications. I was determined to meet her though. I got my grandma to arrange for us to meet.

The sun was so bright the day I met her. I remember waiting for her to come, it felt like forever. Finally I heard a voice, a female, now a teenager. She was reuniting with my dad. She looked at me. We shook hands but that eventually turned into a hug. We got along so well. We swam and did everything possible together that day. The day I met my sister was amazing.

Today, Tanisha is now 18 and I am 16, and we still get along perfectly. We still talk to this day about everything possible. I visit her every summer in Canada and it's a sad good-bye when I come home. She and I are best friends. All of this made me realize that the day I met my sister, I also met my best friend, when I met one more person who loved me in my life, and a creation of a bond that will last a lifetime.

I'm still not sure exactly how to use this site, so please be patient/understanding.

-It's a bit short as well because it can't be longer than 2 pages when double spaced.
