Undergraduate / engineering, Northwestern Supplement Essay [3]

What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?

Four months ago, I knew nothing about Northwestern University. It was only when I started my college research that I came across NU. I was looking for a US university that has one of the best industrial engineering programs in the country and at the same time gives financial aid to international students. That is exactly what I found.

One of the things that really attracted me is the picturesque campus, it struck me as an environment where I would want to study and learn. Also Northwestern has impressive student diversity as well. I believe that many different cultures add value to the learning experience in any institution. I am excited at the prospect of being able to interact with students coming from all over the world and would want to learn more about them and their cultures. It is my hope that I would benefit from such a mix of cultures at Northwestern and would be eager to contribute to the diverse study body as an international student coming from Pakistan.

Also the variety of extra curricular activities amazes me. Northwestern caters to the interests of all students.
Another source of attraction for me is the city of Chicago. I would love to live in such a vibrant city.
McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science is the place where I want to pursue my undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering. Northwestern has among the most highly qualified professors in the country. The distinguished faculty is involved in the most cutting-edge research. The small student body of around eight thousand undergraduates means a higher faculty to student ratio. This means greater personal attention from teachers.

The Industrial engineering field is all about choices. Other engineering disciplines apply skills to very specific areas. IE gives one the opportunity to work in a variety of businesses.

Many practitioners say that an industrial engineering education offers the best of both worlds: an education in both engineering and business. This is what I am interested in as I am planning on pursuing an MBA degree and thus career in business later on.

The most distinctive aspect of industrial engineering is the flexibility it offers. Whether it's shortening a rollercoaster line, streamlining an operating room, distributing products worldwide, or manufacturing superior automobiles, all these challenges share the common goal of saving company's money and increasing efficiencies. I believe Northwestern is an ideal place to pursue such a degree.

I was also very excited to find that the university has an excellent rowing team and that rowing is the largest club sport at Northwestern. I am in my school rowing team and actively take part in the sport.
