Homeschooling My daughter Vs. Public School

One of the toughest decisions that you are going to face as a parent is that you're going to have to decide where to send your children to get their education. When people think of education, they almost automatically think of public school. It is estimated that parents are now

teaching over two million children at home, rather than in public or even private schools Homeschooling my daughter has helped her excel both academically and socially.

However, many critics are against homeschooling your children. They believe that a child can't get the same education in comparison to a child who is in the public education system. Many people feel that they become socially withdrawn, and they become outcasts. I would have to strongly disagree. My teenage daughter was in public school herself, and she never had one on one attention that she gets from being homeschooled. This isn't the teachers fault because the ratio of teachers to students is usually pretty high. In my daughters class she had close to 40 students in her class. My daughter told me that she sometimes didn't even have a desk. I decided to withdraw her from school because she was having way too many problems with peers. Children who go to public school also have to deal with negative peer pressure, danger of bullying, physical and verbal assault. I felt that I needed to give homeschooling a chance.

Homeschooling my daughter was a decision that took a lot of investigating before I took her out of the public school system. My daughter was totally against it at first. Her only reasoning was because she wouldn't be able to see her friends 'I remember explain it to her that, "It is not about your friends, it is about your future, your education." I was very much into her education, and I remember her really struggling with her homework. I always took a vigorous part in her homework and education because I knew how important it was for her future.

When we first started homeschooling her, I was worried that I was not going to be able to educate her properly. I was really nervous. I told myself that I would try. I was amazed at how much of a positive difference that homeschooling has made on my daughter. For five days I am homeschooling my child. I assign her work for her for the week. It is always a two-way dialogue and not a public school lecture. She is able to learn at her own pace, and this teaches her to become self-motivated. The schedule is pretty laid back. She knows what she is supposed to do, and I am there any time she needs help. No one knows my daughter more than I do, so I know exactly what she needs when it comes to helping her. One incentive to finishing her work early is that we could do fun things to do as a family. She does really well and her behavior has dramatically changed for the better.

Many parents believe that school is the only place that children learn socialization skills and this is simply not true. Actually, homeschoolers have more time to socialize since they do not have to spend the time for an administrative task in school. They have more time to interact deeply with other siblings, the neighbors, and other homeschooling families. My daughter participates in the 4-h club, Girl Scout and a Quilting and Cooking class.

In conclusion, every child is different, and every child learns differently. I am not saying that homeschooling is for everybody. All that I am saying is that this is what has helped my daughter in school. I am happy that not only am I able to educate my daughter Julie, but I was able to form a stronger bond with her as well.
