Graduate / statement of purpose for mechanical engineering for phd admission [2]
hi everyone. this is my first rough draft of my statement of purpose. please check it
My interest in Engineering blossomed during my high school years. It was the time when technology had begun to make impact on the lives of people in India. Hence engineering with mechanical as my major was the first choice for my undergraduate studies. Admission to undergraduate engineering is through preliminary screening test by more than 140,000 students. This test requires a strong academic background at pre-university level, with good analytical and quantitative skills. I ranked in the top 1% of 140,000 students. My performance in this screening test provided me with the privilege of choice and I choose Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate major at Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering, which is considered as one of the well renowned universities in India.
At Sri Venkateaswara University, I received the best possible undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering. I've acquired a strong background in the fundamentals of basic mechanical engineering subjects like Heat Transfer, CAD/CAM, Applied Thermodynamics, Engineering mechanics, and Machine Drawing etc. I have consistently ranked among the top 3 % of the students with 70. During the final year of my engineering course, a project titled "Cooling Load Estimation". Project involves taking the measurement of specific room. Calculate the amount of heat entering the specific room through walls and windows. Providing the amount of Tons refrigeration required to keep the specific room in the desired conditions.
After finishing my graduation, I was selected for the Energy Infratech Pvt Ltd. I worked as a Design Engineer I, my work includes designing hydro mechanical equipments, trash racks, fixed wheel gates, cost estimation of gates and hoist supporting structures. Whiling working as Design Engineer I, I thought that the knowledge I have is insufficient to get into high level positions with undergraduate degree. So I applied for the master's degree in the University of Mississippi. I got admission into the university with department assistantship.
As a graduate student in the University of Mississippi, I enhanced my engineering skills in the fields of design, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. The course projects like designing a heater, prediction of temperature distribution and fluid flow, designing a gumball machine further enhanced my skills in MATLAB and Pro/E.
Thermal and fluid sciences has captivated my interest during my graduate study and relating to that I had also completed many projects namely "Prediction of Temperature Distribution using TDMA technique", "Prediction of Fluid Flow using simple algorithm", "Design and Analysis of Heater", "Design of minimum length nozzle" using MATLAB. While working for my thesis titled "Impact of Design Parameters on Resin Injection Chamber Length" I learnt how to do literature survey, pultrusion manufacturing process, and how the design parameters with different injection chamber lengths are affecting the pultrusion manufacturing industry, and I proposed favorable conditions to pultrude composites under manufacturable process. During my engineering studies I have strived for academic excellence and scientific spirit. The nature of undergraduate study and master's does not offer enough scope for individual expression while rapidly advancing technology needs mastery of specific areas. I look at PhD as essential tools towards excelling in my field of interest and platform. I would like to pursue PhD in specialized areas like thermal sciences and Computational Fluid Dynamics in a committed manner and I am confident of contributing considerably to the growth of this field. My educational experiences with related project are a testimony to it.
Browsing to the department's research home page I found an extremely distinguished faculty and a graduate program which blends high quality course work and research facilities at the cutting edge are the factors which have motivated me to pursue PhD from the University of Florida and my wish is to be a part of an excellent academic institution. University of Florida supplies me research groups in heat transfer/fluid dynamics with good reputation, and I offer my knowledge, creativity for research in science topics.
