Here is my Statement of Purpose:

Nigeria is a country that I hold close to my heart. As the son of Nigerian immigrants, I have visited Nigeria and seen the abundance of potential in the country. I was greatly disturbed when I learned that Nigeria does not a have a database system that stores criminal and historical records, and it saddens me that Nigeria's information system is acute in these modern times. Currently, the NITDA (National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria, created in 2001) is making efforts to solve these problems, but due to its fairly recent creation and Nigeria's inadequate educational support in IT, these barriers continue to impede the country's information system progress. My belief is that the days of advancement will come to Nigeria, if established IT specialists from developed countries educate and reshape the country's technology sector. A degree from Northwestern will give me the creativity, credibility, and network capabilities to establish relationships with leaders of many developing countries, like Nigeria, in forming innovative database system ventures in the public sector, and creating IT educational funds to improve the future technological competitiveness of these countries. Towards the end of my career, I hope to one day motivate others, especially citizens of developing countries, to become leaders in their respective fields and advance their countries to the status of a developed country. I understand that this a grand statement to make, especially from a recent college graduate, but I have confidence that Northwestern University can help me achieve this goal in the future.

As a student, I not only intend on learning the fundamental and vital aspects in Information Systems, but my interest also lies in understanding and solving real world problems that presently plague database systems and network capabilities. I aim to bring scholarship and resourcefulness to the classrooms by asking thought provoking questions to professors, and seeking answers to my own concerns with the aid of Northwestern's student resources. My professional experiences in African information systems will provide a more global perspective on IT networking in developing countries to the classroom that may not be seen often. I hold Northwestern in high esteem, as an intuition known to breed leaders and innovators. Personally, I firmly believe that the university will mold me into a leader in information technology through my exposure to the best educators and professionals in the field.
