Undergraduate / "a strong passion for music" - Art Institute of California- San Francisco Admissions [2]
I'm applying for the Art Institute in SF for Audio Production and could greatly use any criticism on my essay to make sure it's the best essay I could send.
The instructions said to have no less than 200 words or maximum of 300 words but I've spoken with an Assistant Director of Admissions and she said it'd be ok if it was a little longer. My essay so far is at 388 words. * I have to submit this essay by no later than 1/18.
Question: "What are your career goals and how do you expect your education at the Art Institute of California - San Francisco to help attain them? In what ways will you participate and commit to your education in order to be successful?"
Answer:
As far back as I can remember I have always had a strong passion for music. From the time I was 8 years old when I received my first CD; I've spent the majority of my life listening to music while at the same time critiquing the quality of sound. When going to shows or watching videos of bands recording I had always wanted to know more about the technical aspects of the audio equipment being used; the soundboards, audio software, speaker setups, and acoustics of the venue or studio.
My ideal career goal is to work within the music industry as a music producer to assist bands or artists showcase their creative talents through production, mixing and mastering techniques for the masses to hear. I know there are many mediums of audio production I can delve into such as TV/Film or designing sounds for new games which I am also open to. After graduating from the Art Institute I'd like to start out working as a sound engineer at live venue's and save money towards opening my own sound studio.
Going to the Art Institute of San Francisco would open new doors to me that for the past few years I hadn't thought possible. The audio production program offers me the chance to really take hold of my passion by learning from Instructors who've already had experience in the industry, which I can take inspiration from. I love that I'll be able to get hands-on experience in a state of the art studio rather than just learning from text in a book. The location of the school itself is one of the best places for my creativity to spark as it is in the heart of an artistic, diverse culture.
I will participate and commit to my education by arriving to classes on time, ready and eager to learn. I will not lose focus of my goals while taking on all new challenges given to me by peers and instructors with an open mind. I plan on utilizing all the resources available to me such as career services to find work while in school, and joining the audio club to meet fellow students with same interests as myself. I know now that my dreams are within reach and given the opportunity I will succeed in my endeavors.
