Jasmine, I usually free writting initially to get an essay of that sort started, by this I mean that I write off the top of my head. After my initial draft, I find the strongest ideas of that draft and expand on them. Another method is to just write a quick outline of what I want to write and then expound on that outline, this will give you a focus for your essay. here is an example:

Someday I want to be known for being a talented musician
1. I am a talented musician
a. I play multiple instruments
b. I write songs
c. I compose music
d. I move people with my music
e. I use my talent to inspire others

and so on, just tell your story, 1000 words is a short space to get your point across so maybe find 3 points to emphasize.
