The piece that would not FIT

Since the dawn of time, humans adorned themselves creating unique ways to distinguish themselves from one another, this is what we now call fashion. Today it has become a popular and lucrative industry.

I am innovative, I've always been able to transform my visions into creations whether concrete or simply on paper. I have never constructed a garment from start to finish however if I have an Idea or concept, I am able to execute it by altering what I already have.

At the tender age of twelve, I knew that I was going to be in this industry. I knew that while everyone else was busy being a doctor or firefighters I was going to be in magazines.

My passion for art and drawing begin in elementary I would draw these little paper dolls, and they had on items that I wished had existed. Paper dolls turned in sketches with themes. My first theme was Tokyo punk rock, I challenged myself by researching everything having to with this style. I begin creating diverse sketches exude everything that I believe to be Tokyo punk rock. My sketches had advanced so much over the years, yet I had never been able to turn them into actual designs.

I also made lookbooks they were like magazines that I made in composition books. They consisted of collages from these themes that I had thought of mimicking magazines like Vogue, Nylon, and Essence. Every lookbook that I made was different and I gave them names I recall one of my books being called Chocolate vintage. The layouts were amazing, the only problem was my ability to come up with appealing stories to go in them but people were still impressed by the visuals.

In middle school I was first introduced to social networking, I knew that this was a chance to show the world who I was. I made my first page in 7th grade.

I started putting outfits together, modeling them and I would use creative software to edit my photos. Today I had a highly praised tumblr blog with over 11,000 fans and followers from all over the world.

The bulk of my selling experience began in 2007 when my mom followed her dreams as becoming a jewelry designer. I watched everything she did starting with picking a specific market, and transforming beads into extravagant jewelry

Upon graduation I was convinced that I was talented in all areas of fashion; I could sketch, I styled, I blogged, I was excellent at graphic design and so many trusted me when it came to styling or fashion advice. I even won the superlative for most outrageous style. Fonzworth Bentley came to speak to us at graduation and from then I knew that I was going to go to New York and live my dream.

However I ended up putting New-york on Hold to Attend Clark Atlanta University, I figured I would get the best of both since it was an HBCU and they had a fashion Merchandising program. I was on a path to destruction not only was I attending the wrong school I had no idea what I was going to do after graduating. When you are somewhere you are not suppose to be it will never work out. I feel like my life has been a puzzle and I wasted three years trying to force a piece that will not fit. I had been working so hard to attend a University that is not properly giving me what I need to succed, it was time for a change

I analyzed my knowledge skills and abilities, I have so many ideas and I don't have an effective way to sell my ideas. At this point in my life I am eager to have hands on experience in my field and FIT is what I need to fulfill this need. I have found a career that suits me very well in product development and I know with all of my heart that the Fashion Merchandise management program at FIT would properly prepare me for my career.
