Undergraduate / 'to learn the marimba' - Common App short answer about music [2]

Hi, I just finished writing my short answer for the common app and I really need just some general comments on what I can fix! I know it is really rough right now, so any comments would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities:

Whenever people ask me what instrument I play in band, I am always
prepared to do some explaining; I usually end up describing a marimba
as a wooden xylophone. Because I had grown up learning how to play
common instruments like the flute and piano, I was more than happy to
be given the opportunity to learn the marimba. Ever since I have
mastered mallet instrument techniques, my marimba has been my musical
escape from the troubles of this world. The contentment I feel while
playing marimba relieves my stress from an overwhelmingly rigorous
academic environment, even if just momentarily. My mind drifts to a
place free of anxiety when I grip my two mallets in each hand and hear
its soothing, wooden timbre. As I play out a melody I can forget the
worry of an upcoming test, a nearing deadline, and even the
unhappiness of a bad day. Like the instrument itself, the deep
connection I share with my marimba is truly unique and one that I will
always be grateful for.
