============================================
Dear sir or madam,
I appreciate this oportunity to provide further information as a support of my application for the master's in econometrics in ______(學校) for one-year programme 2012-2013. In this letter, I will introduce my acedemic background,my interest of econometrics and my career plan. I think I am a very potential student and be willing to contribute to your university.
STATISTICAL BACKGROUND
I hold a bachelor's degree majoring on Statistics from National Taipei University, Taiwan. During the period of college, I was an active and industrial student, finishing my study with total average GPA 3.62 and average ranking in the top 15%. The department offers qualified courses to equip me with very solid statistical background. Since statistics requires complicated science, such like knowledge of probability, capacity of dealing with abstract concepts, calculus skills...etc, it is, comparatively, a demanding and challenging major. On the one hand, lots of students feel very stressful and depressed in this area; on the other hand, it increases my competence, because I love statistics and I am good at it.
INTEREST OF ECONOMETRICS
The interest in econometrics gradually increased in the period of last semester. At that time, I was still unsure whether I should study further or directly jump into society, because I haven't found a field which interested me. Things have been changed, however, through two courses: time series analysis and statistics economics. The common idea of these two courses is to predict the future with the uncertainties and too little information. This attracted me because it is very practical. The reality lacks of enough information to make precise prediction. For example, the financial analyst lacks of enough public information to measure the financial status of a company; the government is short of sufficient information to make policy. Therefore, how to produce an unbiased and consistent forecasting under the assumption of too little information becomes a challenging issue. I believe that our society needs this specialty and I'm enthusiastic to devote myself into this field.
REASONS TO STUDY IN NETHERLANDS
There are two reasons why I choose to study abroad in ____. First, as you can see in my CV, I have spent a year as an exchanging student in Austria. During the year, I was edified by international experience and the European culture. So I desire to have a second chance to study in Europe. And Netherland is one of the top in EU. Second, I plan to work in Netherlands afterwards. I have visited Netherlands before and gotten a good impression. The spirit of respect, the diversity of cultures, the attitude of green. I like the environment and would like to get more insight through working in Netherlands. But it is hard to hold a foreign diploma and find a job successfully, because employers won't recognize my training. Since you have an outstanding reputation, excellent programme, multivariate nations of students and strategic career prospects, I believe that studying in ______(學校) is the best choice for me.
In summary, my academic background provides me with less opportunity cost to get into the field of econometrics. The interest of econometrics makes me be more active in learning and improving myself. The international experience shaped my personality so that I become more stable and mature to deal with a new environment. I think I'm the best potential applicant. Please accept my applicant and I will definitely make a great contribution to your university.
I appreciate you taking the time to review my application.
Sincerely.
