Undergraduate / (political science) Letter of Academic Intent-Mature - UBC [2]

"What will you make of your life now?" That was the question my farther asked me after walking off the stage at my high school graduation ceremony. I was soon to be leaving the place I called home, to gain insight and search for my place in society. The home and life I once knew, now a closed chapter in my life. At nineteen years old, I felt confused, scared, yet curious of all the opportunities that surrounded me. I knew the best way to find my answers were to ask the world the right questions; to experience all life had to offer me. Through my endeavours I grew my passion for music, philosophy and politics; the beauty of expression and inquisitive thinking. As a son of mother strongly engaged in the political realm, while also having a family with background in law, I was always surrounded by discussions about political philosophy, law and behaviourism. As a young child, my uncle would often get in debates with me over realism, comparative politics and absolute normative government; I was 16 years old, I should have been playing with Lego. Soon after high school I became immersed in music, it gave me a channel to speak my mind and communicate my opinions and concerns. The content of my music was centred on worldly issues; politics, society and sociological enigmas. I thought the best way to communicate something not significant to others lives, was using a method that was, music. The eventually lead me down the path of teaching my craft; I wanted to equip people with the ability to spread their words and emotions like I did. This prompted me to start a community event where people of all walks of life could come and express themselves through music, I soon found myself traveling internationally to convey that very same message. Teaching and informing me people is something I wish to continue with and work at a far reaching level. Studying under those with more years of wisdom than me is how I now wish to learn and enable myself to creative positive change and contributions to this world. With this in mind, I am humbly submitting my application to the University of British Columbia so I may pursue an undergraduate degree in political science.
