Dissertations / PhD reseach topic (can be from the domain of Software Engineering, HCI, Semantic Web) [8]

I have done my Master's from university of Manchester and want to apply for splite-site PhD but I am finding difficulty in finding a PhD research topic .. My preferred domain area is software engineering could you please help me find a research topic which doesn't include coding as I want to work on something that develop's a new or modified development technique/ architecture... in my msc thesis i worked on agile development ... looking forward for your reply.
