Undergraduate / UPenn essay - The aspiration of attending the University of Pennsylvania [2]

I know this is late but it would be great if someone can edit this and tell me how it is. There is probably a lot of awkward phrasing and junk but let me know what you think. Thanks.

Describe the courses of study and the unique characteristics of the University of Pennsylvania that most interest you. Why do these interests make you a good match for Penn?

Growing up and being set apart from the city after thirteen years of development brings about much change in a person. An area bustling with masses of people, lights in full circumference, and clamor can drastically turn to placid surroundings and nothing of walking distance. When I used to reside in the city, I constantly envisioned myself attending a college in the area for the opportunities that a city would hold. Upon moving into the suburbs, my dream remained as I caught sight of a school that captivated me with its rigorous academic programs and dynamic campus conveniently located in the city of Philadelphia. The aspiration of attending the University of Pennsylvania has then been planted in my mind as a school I would desire to attend.

The University of Pennsylvania has been an area for the most elite students to strive to pursue an education in. I was truly moved to discover all of the components to what I wished to pursue for an education located at this college. I wish to pursue a degree in biological science with the ultimate goal of a career in the medical field. I hold a particular interest in pediatrics with a mind set to engage in the care of young children. I feel that with a strong education in the sciences that the Penn holds would provide a wonderful base for future education. For example, the University of Pennsylvania provides several opportunities of research in microbiology from which to gain knowledge in subjects such as apoptosis and the potential of stem-cells. Many other subjects of future interest are yet to be explored upon attending this college.

In addition to researching, outside the university complements another area with opportunity. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is expediently located on campus where I could help myself associate with my interest in the medical field. Ranked top ten in the United States, the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania could host as a remarkable environment for volunteer work and growth as a pursuer of science. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is also located on campus where it could help set a base for my future undertakings in pediatrics.

Aside from my commitment to the sciences, I hold another fascination to the languages provided at Penn. Being that it is a requirement to take a language; the university is able to provide a wealth of verbal communication to explore beyond a language but an exploration of a new culture as well. Languages such as Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese, not usually explored, are provided modes of access to fascinating cultures and history. The variety of languages offered serves as a guide for effective communication important in our world today. Using my knowledge in a foreign language would best help in communication of patients I hope to serve in the future as well. Another aspect of the Penn's programs that intrigues me is their distinguishing college house music program. I intend to continue nourishing my interest in music by partaking in Penn's University Choir where I can contribute to Penn's effervescent campus after four years of participation in my high school's choir.

Attending the University of Pennsylvania is an aspiration that I believe I can pursue. I am confident that I am up for the challenge that Penn has to offer for all of its students. I am eager to be inspired, challenged, and prepared for future endeavors as a student in the University of Pennsylvania.

Undergraduate / 'exposed to experiment' - Upenn Professor Short Answer (Psychology) [5]

Thanks in advance if you can help improve this short answer. I honestly didn't know how to write this so here it goes:

The convolution of the human mind has always been an inexplicable inquiry to humans for centuries. Understanding the neural bases of human thought has intrigued me ever since I skimmed the surface of Psychology at my first after school class in the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Briefly discussing the capabilities of perception, memory, decision-making, and development has made me yearn for a better grasp of knowledge upon the subject. Professor Javier Medina seems to hold that key to open the door to this knowledge that I wish to attain based on his experiments concerning the intricacies of the human mind. Professor Medina's research attempts to understand the neural processes that allow humans to attain and consolidate new motor skills such as learning piano and riding a bicycle. His goals upon this research are to further comprehend the link between neural activity, long-term flexibility and motor learning in the brain.

The mere thought of being exposed to this experiment excites me to no end.
The incessant information he can provide me with is unthinkable, but I am strongly interested in exploring it. Learning from Prof. Medina's proficiency in vivo neurophysiology and computational neuroscience would be an honor to look forward to.
