Undergraduate / Essay on being from Lebanon and how that has shaped my dreams and aspirations [2]

Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

I am from the beauty of Lebanon, a Mediterranean land painted with the ruins of the Romans, accented with the influence of the French and conceived with the exotic features of the Arabs. Although I was born within the ideologies of the American Dream, I am currently residing in the thriving city of Dubai, which allows me to be exposed to the turmoil and chaos that has recently captivated the country of my heritage as well as the majority of the Middle East. In the summer of 2006, at the age of eleven, I was a victim of the Lebanese-Israeli war that ensued in Lebanon. I had to comply with the harsh reality that lurked around our sanctuary and accept the fact that it was necessary for me to mature within a limited time frame. Innocence had blinded the child that I was when I entered a summer that was designed to hold the matrimony of my uncle and his fiancĂŠ, however a new silhouette departed the corrupted nation, an individual with mental and visual experiences that have carved who I am today.

Even though the tension between Israel and Lebanon has decreased over the years, Lebanon has recently evolved into another unstable battle zone where diverse leaders are trying to convey their beliefs onto the Lebanese society and its neighboring countries. Within their struggles to shape the country, these men in power have caused disorder, desolation and death to erupt among the nation that previously symbolized the 'Vegas' of the Middle East. Individual ideas that contrast what these dictators believe in are often masked away from the greedy eyes of the public. However my experiences and my dedication towards my origin complies me to stand up and state what I believe in. My dreams are molded by the mistakes of current and previous leaders of Lebanon; when they crave a dictatorship, I believe in restoring the beauty and exuberant freedom that once roamed the Mediterranean land. This dream has lead to the aspiration to study international relations and political science because I am striving to claim a better understanding of why my sanctuary has continued to fall under the influence of war, and how to relieve Lebanon from inhumane conflicts.
