Undergraduate / conveniency and education / psychology / novels - NYU [3]

Thank you very much! I know that I can be extremely long-winded in my sentences and I apologize. However, I am more concerned about is the 3rd essay :( I was unsure on how to tackle that essay without sounding corny or redundant.

Undergraduate / conveniency and education / psychology / novels - NYU [3]

Hello!! I am new to this website and I wish to receive help on my personal statements! I feel as though they are inadequate and I would like someone's feedback :)

Also, I am hoping to have everything completed by November 20th!

Tell us why you have chosen the above campus (using a maximum of 700 characters-spaces and punctuation included).

I have chosen NYU for two reasons : conveniency and education. Since I currently reside in New York, it would be easy to commute since I know the area. Additionally, through my observations of post graduates, I am inspired to follow them because of their success. It would be an honor to attend the prestigious NYU because not only does NYU offer a diversity of academic programs, but it provides an excellent education that is open for the student body. The education at NYU is comparable to the ivy leagues which is why many students yearn to go. Moreover, there is no specific ethnicity or race that dominates NYU which allows attending students to divulge in different cultures and lifestyles.

Please respond to each of the following questions using a maximum of 1,500 characters (spaces and punctuation included) in the space provided.

A. NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

Despite my uncertainty about my academic plans, I have always been interested in the fundamentals of Psychology as a child. The way the brain works complexes me; even my own emotions have sparked curiosity about this career realm. I am curious to why and how a brain controls a human functions the way it does so I can better understand myself as a person and take that information to help others. It is applicable to my life and others' lives that it is so captivating yet difficult to grasp. Also, I am keeping in mind that the study Psychology cannot be mastered because there are always new discoveries. The way the human brain works and functions is so intricate that people today still cannot extract all the information they need. Because of my extreme curiosity and determination, I am hoping to increase my knowledge by involving myself in the programs offered in NYU. I would also explore my interest in Psychology on the campus by creating interrelationships with others and developing communication skills.

B. What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

I have a nack for novels that stir up a lot of questions and insights. For example : The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story revolves around Jay Gatsby, a young man who came from a low socioeconomic area and redeemed himself by becoming a rich and handsome man. Gatsby does not realize that he is living in the past and constantly refuses to accept the fact that he cannot win the heart of the woman he loves. This novel is significant to me because I, too, have once experienced a period of time in my life when I refused to accept the truth. The novel allows me to reflect in my past with ease because it reassures me that I am not the only one who has went through a similar situation. However, Gatsby undergoes extreme changes throughout the novel. He becomes consumed by materialistic goods and luxurious privileges that he loses himself while doing so. I personally believe that is the most heart wrenching part of the work of literature; the extent in which Gatsby takes in order to change himself into a "new man". Gatsby completely altered his personality and the person he really was prior to gaining his wealth. Perhaps his emotions overwhelmed him to make this sudden and drastic decision. Somehow it makes sense yet it does not. I find his impulsive actions to reflect on society today and how individuals try too hard to impress others.
