Undergraduate / 'My mom is important and supportive' - someone who made an impact on my life and why [2]

Someone who has made an impact on my life would have to be my mom. My mom has literally been my rock to lean on when life threw problems my way. Since I was born there always seemed to be something that stood in between me and getting to live my life, and whenever I faced these problems my mom would be right there with the lead and guide me and to see that I made it through. When I was first born I was born prematurely and the nurses and doctors told my mother that I wouldn't make it. I was sent to many different hospitals and everywhere I went, my mom was right there with me. So knowing that she never left me told me that I had a pretty strong woman for a mom and that I could always count on her. Growing up I was always with my mom learning and being taught new things everyday and without that I probably wouldn't be the young man that I have become today. Over the years I have watched my mom go through the hard times and the good times, I have also watched her grow in many ways that I cannot think of how to explain. My mom also taught to never give when life gets tough, which I did get a lot tougher. When I was thirteen I was diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile Diabetes and almost immediately I began to cry because I knew you could die from diabetes so knowing that immediately sent panic throughout my body. After leaving the doctor's office my mom looked at me and told me "Don't worry..everything will be alright and we will get through this". Hearing those words really motivated me to take care of myself and to not let this disease take control of my life. So to me my mom is really important because she made me the man that I am becoming today and without her I probably wouldn't be in the place that I'm in today. My mom is also very supportive, she supported me throughout high school with all my after-school and extracurricular activities and attended whenever she could. To me, seeing my mom at all of my events opened my eyes to what a great parent she was and what a great teacher she was for teaching me all the elements I needed to become a successful and independent adult.
