Undergraduate / Education increases the ability of our mind; Virginia Tech PS/ QUOTATION [2]

Could you please review my Virginia Tech personal statement?

PROMPT: Malcolm Forbes stated that, "Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one." Discuss what this quotation means to you.

Malcolm Forbes' statement, "Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one." According to me, this states that knowledge helps people to widen their horizons and understand things from another perspective. To be educated means to be able to reason and apply that knowledge in day to day life. If one is not educated, then one fails to speculate, and immediately arrives at a conclusion without reasoning.

Anyone can read a poem, but it takes experience and knowledge to understand the deeper meaning beyond those words. An example is philosophical reflection of the poem, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. To a reader who does not know much about poetry, it will seem as if the poet is just talking about two roads, and is wondering whether the road he had chosen was the right one or not. However, an experienced and knowledgeable reader will come to know that there is a deeper meaning and what it is.

Therefore, education is definitely required to increase the mind's ability to perceive and see things in a different light.
