Scholarship / I have the desire, the passion, the motivation, and the intellect;Nursing Scholarship [2]

The scholarship applications asks applicants to "Provide a brief statement about your educational and career goals and motivations as they relate to nursing, and circumstances or challenges you had to overcome to pursue those goals, and how the scholarship will help."

I would love feedback on content (things to add, things to remove, things to change around) as well as grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

When I was 17 years old, I was faced with the question every college-bound senior has to confront: What will you study in college? Not only did I not know what I wanted to study, I did not even know how to begin narrowing down my options. Without much work experience (or life experience, at that) I did not know how to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I ended up earning a bachelors degree in Psychology, followed by a job in corporate America unrelated to my major. I knew I did not want that job to become my lifelong career, but that left me faced with the million dollar question: What did I want my career to look like?

I needed to figure out where my passions and talents meshed. After several years of introspection (and list-making), I finally figured it out! While I didn't realize it at age seventeen, at 30, I finally know that a career in nursing is the perfect fit for me.

I have a desire to help people and make a palpable difference in their lives. I want to tend to the physical and mental well being of patients while also providing them with comfort, understanding, and empathy.

As I care for patients' medical needs, I also want to be an educator. I want to ensure patients clearly understand medical tests they are undergoing, their diagnoses, and courses of treatment. I want to inform patients in order to empower them to make decisions about their health and their future.

I am in the process of completing the prerequisite courses for the Associates Degree in Nursing - Accelerated Option. I will begin this program in the Fall of 2013.

I have the desire, the passion, the motivation, and the intellect to be successful in nursing school as well as in my nursing career. The one piece that is missing in order for me to pursue this dream is the financial burden of being a full-time student.

As I have been taking prerequisite courses, I have continued to work full-time in order to pay for school and living costs. When I start nursing school, I will be a full-time student and will not be able to keep my job.

Receiving this scholarship would allow me to achieve my goal of attending nursing school in the fall. I truly appreciate being considered for the [name of scholarship will be here] Scholarship.
