Undergraduate / I could create art as a form of employment; SOP/SCAD graphic design BA [4]
I'm leaving high school and trying to get into SCAD, I need to write an aprox. 500 word SOP
describing my educational and career goals, my intended major at SCAD, and why I want to attend SCAD.
It's pretty messy, help me clean it up, please!

I will not say I 'realized' I had a passion for art at a young age. This is not true, because I never had this point of discovery in my life; art has simply always been a part of who I am. I love to create. I love expressing myself through creation. The point of realization came when I discovered I could create art as a form of employment; and that there are entire schools dedicated at the study of art.
I happened upon this discovery on an all-but-ordinary day in elementary school. A career day was being put on and they had all the usual occupations; doctor, veterinarian, fireman and police officer. Although, there was one who stood out to me, a sculptor. That was the day I started my pursuit. From then on I took every art class I could manage, learning and trying as many mediums as I could.
Skipping ahead to high school, after many art clubs and showcases, I started becoming a little more apprehensive. I knew I couldn't just 'do art' for a job. Even in my wishful freshman thinking, I knew what they said about the starving artist. My school, being a bit underfunded, did not much care about the art department, although, I still dedicated all the electives I could to the meager art classes.
Again, on an all-but-ordinary day at my high school, they were hosting a showcase for another branch of the schools in the county, The Central Educational Center. In amongst all the aviation, welding and advertisements, there was one booth, Graphic Design. Before this, I had only vaguely heard of Graphic Design and what it was about. After learning more, I immediately fell in love with the work and study. I knew exactly what I wanted to pursue in my time in high school and beyond.
While studying in the new found graphic design class, the instructors spoke about various art colleges and the one that stood out to me was, of course, SCAD. I wanted to learn more so I took a tour and learned as much as I could about the curriculum and fell, incurably, in love. It was vastly different from anything I had ever experienced. The artist is a respected scholar honing their craft not just a dreamer. So much effort is put into having the best quality tools, equipment and educators. The student cannot help but to put in ten times the effort in utilizing theses tools to learn as much as they can.
My educational goals are very clear-cut. I would like to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design; sharpening my artistic mind while experiencing and mastering as many creative mediums as I can. In short, I want to pursue a career in creation.
In my occupation, I hope to continue to grow every day; still expanding my knowledge long after school. The art of giving the idea a voice and form and purpose, turning napkin sketches into billboard advertisements; that is my purpose in wanting to attend SCAD.
