One more question is, if it is OK not to mention a university's name? (student will use the same letter to send in several universities)

To whom it may concern,
I write this letter in order to give recommendation for {name, surname} whom I firstly met in his third year in {present university}. Being his present university professor in "Microprocessors usage in control and diagnostics" discipline, I would be very proud of him if he gets a chance to continue his study on a graduate program in respected university. 3 years that I know him personally, I found him very talented and the same time extremely hard-working. Both these character traits put him among the best students on the course and I believe he hasn't reached his top yet.

I think his key to success is that he studies what he likes and he likes what he studies. He accepts any challenges connected with his specialty. For example, sometimes lecturers, who don't know English well, ask students to translate recent scientific articles, which can be considered quite boring and complicated. Andrejs never refuses, because, as he says, any experience can give unexpected profit.

I have conducted examinations in his group several times, so I can judge about his knowledge precisely. And I can say that every "excellent" he got in his transcript is a result of his hard work and strong focus. His industry placement supervisor commended him by saying, that Andrejs never tried to avoid any working tasks and in case he faced with new information, wasn't afraid of asking questions, which is a rare quality nowadays. I agree with this description too.

I was glad that Andrejs has chosen me to be his thesis supervisor. That is always more pleasure to teach the strongest. He is very serious about choosing a graduation project topic, but I am sure it will be as relevant as nontrivial.

I must also notice his personality description, which includes possessing a deserved reputation among students, but his upbringing never lets him be disturbing or disrespectful to a teacher or group mates.
