Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos (day of the dead) is really old, it's about 4000 years old. The Olmecs, the Mayans and the Aztecs were some of the "Mesoamerican Civilizations" true in these 4000 years there was a lot of different civilizations but they all had one common belief. They all believed in the afterlife that means when people died they no longer exist in our world so there souls carry them to the afterworld. This belief did not caused fear in death instead it resulted in a celebration of death. "death was simply a continuance of life." They believed.

Around 1521 the Spanish conquered the Aztecs and they wanted to make the Aztecs adopt there catholic beliefs but they failed. After the blind of there beliefs a holiday was formed, "All saints' Day and All souls' Day" which took place in November 1st and 2nd of each year. The Spanish convinced indigenous people to attend special masses on those two days to commemorate the dead, as they tried to change the original Día de los Muertos. But the flock costumes and the traditions prevailed. Over time Día de los Muertos evolved and now its celebrated in different countries like USA but they changed the name to Halloween.

The day of the dead is celebrated in homes or in the parks, And often celebrated in the graveyards. In the graveyard people, families, and friends clean the graves of there loved ones and decorate them with flowers, candles, food, and drinks. They stay all night socializing and telling funny stores. But people who celebrated it in their homes create alters to honor their loved ones. And in some places people let gests in to view the alter.
