Undergraduate / Rutgers U is a place that can help me to excel- Vibrant community [2]

prompt: Rutgers University is a vibrant community of people with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. How would you benefit from and contribute to such an environment? Consider variables such as your talents, travels, leadership activities, volunteer services, and cultural experiences

Essay:
I believe that everything my parents taught me and allowed me to experience has led me to pursue many endeavors in different diverse environments. My Thanksgiving celebrations could be described as melting pots. Knowing that one day I'd be put into a setting where everyone wouldn't be the same race as me, my mother chose to expose me to different cultures at an early age. My teenage years allowed me to take the initiative to advance when I wanted to learn about a new culture. When I visited the city of Jerusalem a year ago, I recall meeting a girl who knew little English. She was extremely excited to know what America was like and for me I wanted to know more about the Jewish culture. We exchanged words and both departed with better knowledge of a contrasting culture.

Having a respect for diversity is nothing new to me. It was first taught to me when I began attending a new church in Montclair, NJ. It was my first experience of being in a racially diverse community. There were people of almost every culture and race in this one building. To me this church embodies the meaning of diversity, withholding such a colorful and vibrant congregation. That itself taught me a lesson in life, that despite what race or cultural background you are from, when sharing a common goal, we all unite as one. From my visits to Rutgers University, I concluded that this lesson embodied the setting on campus.

As I do plan on making acting my career, I can benefit from being in a culturally diverse setting such as Rutgers, to help me excel as an actress. One thing that I've questioned from my studying of actors, is how one can transform from a woman of Caucasian descent to a woman of middle eastern descent and execute the role perfectly. At first, I thought that it was all research, and then I realized that these actors may have encountered people of other races and cultures and from these encounters they noted aspects of them they used as a guide.

I will also benefit by being able to experience a campus beaming with opportunities to meet new students with different life experiences from my own. I also believe that, I can contribute an attitude of open-mindedness and acceptance that can help my peers and myself to understand people of different backgrounds . Lastly, I can contribute my drive to excel that can, hopefully, affect my peers to push themselves, and succeed in their futures as well.

Rutgers University is a global community in its own way, and has the tools I need to craft my skills as an artist, and as a person.I believe that my upbringing has greatly affected who I am today, and the kind of environments I choose to immerse myself in. Rutgers is a diverse environment that brings a wide range of ideas to the table, and drives innovation through its wide range of students, and it is a place that can help me to excel.
