Scholarship / What could my school do to better promote diversity? [4]
So let's start off with what diversity is .Well , diversity involves being accepting and have respect .It means being accepting about the fact that every individual is unique , and accepting our individual differences .This can include race ,ethnicity ,gender, age, religious beliefs ,physical abilities and so on .Basically diversity gives a reason to understand one another and move beyond our differences and accept one another for who we are .Diversity is very important in school and very crucial for kids because it could be very useful to them in future career and studies .There are many ways that diversity can be better promoted in schools .
When promoting diversity we should first start off with ourselves .When we act upon the many ways we can promote it ,in a way we can influence others to act upon it as well .We should always treat one another fairly and try to have an open mind and be open to trying new things and being accepting .Helping each other to develop to our full potential .
When it comes to promoting diversity in schools teachers play a big role in influencing it among their students .Teachers can promote it by making sure there is equal access to opportunities that can help students to focus and fully participate in opportunities that can better their learning process .When teachers see a student has the capability to go higher in learning then they should help them to develop to their full potential no matter where there from or what they believe in .Teachers should teach and provide them with skills that can help them in the future against discrimination and inequality that they may face later in life .Teachers should teach them that we are all one and that we shouldn't look at others by how they look and they believe .Also teachers should provide students with learning materials that don't discriminate students .So in a way when teachers show they are accepting of diversity then it can help students to think the same .
Ways to better promote diversity among young students of different ethnicities is by teachers encouraging them to sit together , to partner them up with one another , and to assign them with joint projects so they can work with one another .These activities in a way diminish prejudices and in a positive way force students to interact with each other .With that they can see the similarities and have understanding of each other .Promoting diversity more of prevents students from being bias and racist and consider each other as one despite the many the difference they have .
So in conclusion it goes to show that we can all promote diversity and end racism ,biasness, and discrimination .With diversity we can learn to accept everyone no matter how different or unique they are .When we take the first step others follow and it slowly turns into a positive chain.
