Essays / [Essay Introduction] Characterization of Vermeer - "Girl with a Pearl Earring" [3]

"He is an exceptional man," van Leeuwenhoek says of his friend Johannes Vermeer. "His eyes are worth a room full of gold. But sometimes he sees the world only as he wants it to be, not as it is. He does not understand the consequences for others of his point of view." Is this an accurate description of Chevalier's characterization of the master painter in « Girl with a pearl earring » ?

400-450 words
(Highschool essay, I'm French)

Hello, before I start my argumentation, I wanted to have a point of view of my introduction. As it gives the first impact, I wanted to know if it's good or not, what should I ameliorate/add/remove or if I should put more highlight the answer to the essay question.

In « Girl with a pearl earring », published in 1999, Tracy Chevalier attaches a great importance to the way people treat another person. In the case of Vermeer, he distinguishes two groups: the family, which he doesn't want to be a part of his artistic world, and the others such as friends, clients or maids, which he gives attention if they worth it. However, he doesn't seem to see and understand how people, especially his wife, feel about that distinction and the consequences, which will come with it.

Thank you.
