How to cite the work of someone while writing your own survey paper

I am a student of masters in computers and as a final year project, i have to submit a paper. I am writing a survey paper. But, the problem that i am facing is that how to use citation in my paper as i am using the data produced by many authors, books, articles and websites. I want to know about the format that most of the papers uses i.e. page number in square bracket, but how it works? which page number i have to provide in square bracket? Please elaborate in detail.
