Writing Feedback / A caste less society is the need of the hour-IGNOU [2]
The caste system was one of the most abhorrent and widely practised evil in India, sadly this system is still practised in remote parts of India even though it is outlawed. A person born into a lower caste in enslaved at the very instant of his birth and has no way to escape this system. He is made to do menial and subhuman tasks such as cleaning the drainage, toilets etc. and is paid peanuts. To add insult to injury he is considered as an untouchable, which is both humiliating and degrading.
Furthermore a person belonging to the lower case is deprived of basic fundamental rights such as the right to education and freedom to practice religion. An untouchable is prohibited from reading or writing and is barred from entering schools, thereby confining him to the lower ranks of society forever. He was prevented from entering temples, although he was made to build it.
The caste system has no place in modern society. Scientifically speaking all men has equal capabilities and therefore it is a crime to deprive people of education or assign people jobs based on their caste, race or skin colour, Even though many people have moved on from this horrific practice caste system remains very much alive there are many reasons for this, Firstly the politicians often create a caste divide to appeal the voters. How can a country move forward if the leaders still cling on to primitive reasoning.?
Secondly the real estate industry creates many colonies and apartments for particular castes and refuses to sell them to people belonging to any other caste. This further increases the caste divide. The only way to end this real estate apartheid is to refuse all transactions with such discriminating businessman.
Thirdly intercaste marriages are frowned upon all sections of societies, marrying into another caste is considered loathsome and dishonourable. Parents disown their own children and in extreme cases even kill them. This is the most glaring example of caste system prevalent in modern India.
A caste less society is the need of the hour and it is only possible if all ranks of society are ready to give up their caste identity and backward thinking is replaced with progressive and liberal thought.
This is my first comprehension, please point out any mistakes.
