Injustice towards women has been a prevalent issue all throughout history. Although it may seem as if this issue has gone away, it is still predominant all over the world. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini shows how poorly women were treated in war-torn Afghanistan. The major issues in this book are the abuse that Mariam and Laila face, the neglect Aziza faces, and Mariam's execution.

Mariam and Laila are abused throughout the whole book. Rasheed starts abusing Mariam when he finds out that she can not have a child.
