Writing Feedback / Most important characteristic of a good teacher? [3]
could you please take a look at my essay??
Although characteristics of a good teacher could be different for different ages of students and different talents, extensive and up to date knowledge of a subject, which a teacher is going to talk about, is assumed to be one of the most important characteristics of a good teacher. And also a good teacher must be able to get along well with students and encourage them learn more on that topic.
In my view, the most principal duty of a teacher is to convey the contents of the syllabus. Therefore, a good teacher must have a great knowledge of a topic he or she wants to discuss about and also it has to be up to date information because everyday scientists find something new in each field and it is crucial for students to know about them. For instance, we had a skillful geometry teacher in high school who knew a lot about this field. Not only did he know every topic in the text book we had, but he also was well aware of the history behind every theory. Involving relative histories rather than teaching theories alone, helped me and my classmates to remember those theories very well. He also taught us one new progress in the field of geometry science in every single lecture he gave us. After all these years, I am still interested in geometry and I think I am his debtor for this interest.
Being able to make friendly relationship with students is another trait of a good teacher. If a teacher cannot get along with students, he or she cannot teach them a subject even if that teacher has a good understanding of the subject. Besides, lectures get boring and student cannot pay enough attention to the gist of a lecture. For example, we had a chemistry teacher in our high school who was a prominent chemist in our whole country but her lack of ability to communicate with students led her great knowledge to go to waste. She was not able to pass along her information to us even though she had lots of theories of her own in chemistry. I can positively say that most of the students were not listening to her during her lectures because those lectures were really boring. Due to that awful presentation of materials, I have not gotten a good score in that field yet.
Good teachers are likely made of a combination of hundreds of qualities that allow them to do their job effectively. But as a conclusion of this essay, good knowledge of the subjects along with communication ability with students is the most valuable quality of a good teacher. If a teacher has both of these characteristics, he or she can be considered a good teacher.
