How did you choose your university? Strong desire to help all people live their possible happy lives [3]
Dear all,
I highly appreciate your kind comments/feedback to my application question below.
How did you choose your proposed course and institution? When I was young, my parents once asked me what I most wanted to do when I grew up. I did remember how much they were happy when I told them I have a strong desire to help all people live their possible happy lives. This has been firmly attached in my heart and driven my unique enthusiasm in social development.
Soon after I graduated my bachelor's degree, I started my journey of passion working as a volunteer at Cambodia Red Cross where I first enjoyed helping and working with vulnerable people. Later, I have been involved in other social issues such as child protection, education, social accountability, health, gender, and VAW.
Throughout my 10-year experience working with NGOs, UN agency, and government, I have noticed a number of barriers hindering effective implementation of social policies in Cambodia such as fragmentation between relevant policies, resource constraints, and implementation gaps. These, for instance, are noticed in the National Social Protection Strategy for the Poor and Vulnerable. Addressing those issues requires more comprehensive analysis with reliable evidences in the area of social development.
To pursue my passion at this level, I need to gain more broadened knowledge, networks, and analytical skills. I utterly believe that by earning an international Master of Social Policy or Public Policy and Management will fulfill my potential and capacity to tackle these issues effectively.
The University of Melbourne is one of the renowned universities in Australia, which I find the ideal place for me to achieve my higher education dream. The program offer varieties of knowledge, practical training, and hands-on experience, which I find extremely useful and encouraging to maximize my learning ability. Also, exposure to professors from all over the world and diverse student provides an enjoyable learning environment. Interestingly enough, going through its course website, I have found that proposed study perfectly matches my professional needs.
My career goal is to gain a senior position in social development in which I can influence more sustainable development and maximize well-beings for the people, including elderly and people with disabilities.
