Lord of the Flies -- an allegorical novel?

Question: What does it mean to say that "Lord of the Flies" is an allegorical novel? What are its important symbols?

Must be 5-8 sentences.

To be an allegorical novel is to have a hidden interpretation through literature. The short novel, Lord of the Flies, demonstrates the allegory of individual composure versus "savage" instincts. The main character in this novel, Ralph, is the leader who tries to find a proper and "civilized" way of surviving on the island and being rescued. Ralph represents a natural-born leader, but the story shows his faults and how the savagery of others affects him. Another main character, Piggy, is an outsider who is fat, intellectual and asthmatic. Piggy represents characteristics sometimes seen in society's victims; he is picked on constantly by others . This novel uses allegory to describe natural, savage-like instincts versus proper, controlled behavior.

One bit of advice would be to say that your opening statement should include the book title, just to specify your topic a bit. This is extremely well written i must say. This may just be a personal habit of mine, seeing as how the assignment was 5-8 sentences, short answer, etc but if it were me, I would put a more "finalizing" touch on the closing statement. Other than that, I must say you are a very intelligent and articulate writer. Well done!
