Hi this is my first time posting here and I really need some help writing an 8-10 page essay,
the prompt is as follows,

"One of the themes of the Enlightenment is working through the tension between the authority of tradition as a guide to good morals and politics and the capacity of unaided reason to lead us in good morals and politics. Write an 8-10 page paper in which you 1. discuss the tension between tradition and reason by drawing on two seminar texts, and 2 critically evaluate the views presented in one of those texts"

our seminar texts include Gulliver's travels, and mediation on first philosophy
i have a lot of information on the enlightenment, and these texts that i want to use i just don't know how to put them into words in a way that will answer the prompt

i've tried to write an outline but i really don't know where to start
any help would be amazing EVEN IF ITS NOT SPECIFIC TO THE PROMPT!
thank you!

Hey, welcome to EF, Amanda. :-) All you need right now is 1 idea.
Come up with 1 idea about the tension between these two approaches to knowledge. Which do you think it superior? Should people use reason, or should they conform to tradition?

After you start thinking about that, go back to one of the readings. Choose one you like. You use google to search for: [NAME OF READING], analysis

If you look for an analysis of the reading you'll find articles that tell you about the themes. All you need is to make one cool observation about what ONE of the readings tells you about this question of reason vs tradition.

It only seems hard because you are thinking about it all at once. Examine one of the readings to find a hidden message or theme, a subtle demonstration through the actions of the characters, about this question of tradition vs reason.
