This is my view about marketing. Nowadays diverse marketing tools and logics are veiled and they affect all aspects of people's life. However, there is one key message which passes through those logics. It is dominating customers' thinking. To realize this idea, I am interested in a variety of marketing areas and it can be divided in three categories. Those are 'advertising', 'branding' and 'consumer culture'. It is my hope that I will be able to share my exciting with colleagues and extend my research with excellent faculties at University of Bath.
In recent years, fifty-eight percent of companies are currently engaged in social networks like Facebook. It means that social media is becoming important for company as a marketing tool and I received an intensive training while I was working dealing with social media for more than 1 year at one of the digital agency in Korea. I spent a lot of time to analyze the reaction of the customers at the time because one of the key features of social media is users' immediate reaction. It was evidently good chance for me to know the importance of customer behavior.
Moreover, managing the social media of the company was one of a job to deliver the concept of the brand. It was challenging task to manage the contents for social media based on the defined concept because there was the concept that customer could not understand and agree after their actual use of the products. This experience reminded me how branding is important when a new brand is established and made me eager to increase understanding of the branding.
As a tool to communicate the concept of the brand, I desire to learn how "advertising" works which is one of the most popular and influential media. The interest about advertising has been maintaining from I was a Sogang University student and I was one of the member of broadcasting station in college. At that time I created advertisement for Sogang University to attract fresher at fresher's week. Through this activity I could realize which factor should be engaged to attract customers effectively. In addition to interest of advertising, my knowledge of new media will helpful to understand effectively. These understanding about two kinds of media also can be combined in this modern society.
My wish is to establish "customer oriented" brand based on the understanding of the various media and customer research. In this regard, University of Bath has competent faculties and I have an interest on the one of the journal of Professor Richard which refers to "relationships between consumers and brands". It is related to realization from my work experience on marketing field that the brands chosen by consumers can be used as a tool of expressing their personalities. In addition, I know that University of Both has excellent research programs. This realization has played a decisive role in making me choose MSc Marketing at University of Bath as the next step in my career.
Based on my marketing competence that I built at Sogang University and the digital marketing agency, I dream of exploring the world of customer culture, branding and advertising at University of Bath from the new perspective that is nearer to customer side. I am confident that it will become as much an exciting challenge for me as it will be difficult.
