Hi everyone
This is my first draft of the SOP for pursuing MSBA(Analytics) any suggestions and reviews are welcome.Thank you in advance
The importance of adopting a data-driven approach to policymaking in a business to minimize the risk of financial loss and improve its sustainability has become increasingly clear to me from case studies I have undertaken as a greenhorn in the consultancy sector and is the force driving me towards a masters degree in analytics at UIC.
My undergraduate degree in electrical and electronics engineering due to its heavy emphasis in mathematics especially in subjects such as computational methods in electrical sciences and power system analysis has given me exposure to numerical analysis and made me adept in programming. These skills have aided me in developing a program to check the validity of Mersenne prime numbers using the Lucas-Lehmer test with the help of a faculty. My notable interest in digital signal processing has given me a clear understanding of data compression algorithms.Challenges are not new to me ,my final year group project had faced hurdles right from the beginning due to the marriage of two ideas namely IOT and WSN for surveillance and usage of Python of which I was unsure of since it was beyond our coursework but my steadfastness made sure that it was completed on time satisfactorily . This project had a unique signal bouncing system designed by me and implemented by my team-mates to extend its range .We are in the process of filing for a patent for this idea with the Controller General of Patents.
I was eager to put the programming skills I had developed as a freshman into practice in the industry, the opportunity came right after my second year when I was selected as a summer intern in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to work on the Inertial navigation system of SEPECAT Jaguar undergoing DARIN-III upgrade. I worked in the team assigned to do software testing for the navigation module where my knowledge of C data-structures came in handy. My current position as a business intelligence intern in IDC requires a combination of quantitative skills and an ability to gain an insight into the printer and peripheral market .In this role I have identified key performance variables in the supply chain and have suggested corrective action to the client based on the cycle time data and fulfill rate of their product units. My internships illustrate that I am not restricted to one single domain rather this flexibility allows me to find alternate and innovative solutions to existing unsolved and solved problems.
A graduate degree in Business analytics from UIC I believe will expose me to innumerable real-world business problems from diverse sectors. I am also excited about being in touch with like-minded professionals from around the world who share my enthusiasm for analytics and will collaborate with me on projects especially in the domain of statistical modeling . UIC I hope will help me develop skills such as negotiation apart from enriching me academically. I intend to use an amalgamation of these skills while working in the analytics team of a consulting firm specializing in strategic management after my graduation and in the long-term goal as an independent advisor to the decision making body of regional development bank where I can deliver analytics derived advice. Thus a masters degree in analytics from UIC is the most natural vertical progression for me in my quest to become a data-driven Nostradamus.
