Scholarship / How to end motivation letter on strong and positive note? - Erasmus Scholarship [2]
Being a scientist is a big challenge in Indonesia.
Scientist well-known as an infamous career, with low salary, low fund while the research cost increasingly high.
My name is Diva. I graduated from Indonesia majoring Physics. My final project discussed about perovskite materials as an absorber layer in solar cells. During my last project, I learned many things about laboratory work. I learned how to prepare the wet chemical experiment by myself, which I have never done before, synthesized the precursor, depositing the thin film, assembled it as solar cells, characterized the sample and developed the new, low-cost and straightforward method. I successfully did it, but the lack of characterization instrument made my project just success, many questions still trapped in my head waiting for an explanation.
Developing a new material and applying it to the surrounding benefits is an exciting thing. I see myself as a scientist in the future; as a scientist, research is a must. To have the ability in the research required both experimental knowledge and theoretical explanation in depth that will be obtained through the sample characterization. Therefore, I enrolled in the Erasmus Mamaself program because its aim to train the awardee on large-scale facilities in material characterization and its development. Joining in a large family of Mamaself is also an advantage, meeting people who share an equal vision with us, struggling in material science and it will create a conducive environment to increase cooperation and links across researchers, universities and even countries that will continue to spur material science progress. And this is what I started waking up now, join a research group to add experience, join research symposia to add community link in the same field.
Concerning my previous background and what I am doing now, I think I am very compatible with this program because it fits with what I am doing, and will answer all the question I have wondered so far. The last, being at two different universities during the study is an exciting thing, where we will meet new people, new cultures, and new friends, and I am ready for that.
As I mentioned above, being a scientist is a big deal. But if we do by interest then all that will be done comfortably, and by applying to this program I hope to be a scientist is the right choice because with a good community, great experience, all the challenges to be faced become more interesting.
