After 20 years, in 1980, the shopping area was demolished to pave way for the cancer centre and pharmacy. Simultaneously, farmland was replaced by nursing school, whereas next to it, the car park remained unchanged.

It is interesting to note that the year of 2000 witnessed numerous significant changes. The cancer centre was expanded considerably from the northwest along to the south of Queen Mary Hospital. In contrast, the nursing school shrank and the same situation was noticed in the car park behind the hospital. Finally, the hospital was staying put from 1960 to 2000.
