Scholarship / Business and Management Information Systems - EMJMD GLOCAL (Pathway B) [2]

I am basically writing rubbish I just need some help.

GLOCAL Essay Prompts

You should outline your motivation for choosing the GLOCAL programme (i.e. how it complements and develops your previous studies; how it relates to your potential future career path; how it relates to your personal and academic interests).

Explain why you think you are a good candidate for the programme given your previous studies and how they relate to the courses offered on the programme in both years.

If you have significant post-graduation work experience, please explain how those activities relate to the courses offered in the programme and why you are re-entering the academic world.

Briefly indicate what you might see as being the topic of your Masters thesis (this can change later).
You should highlight your participation in conferences, internships, non-governmental organisations, summer schools, and other socially sensitive or political activity; as well as any prizes/awards received even if these activities are not specially connected to the area of Global Markets & Local Creativities.

The world has witnessed increased interdependence thanks to globalization. Now the image of globalization isn't defined anymore by the movement of traded goods, services and finance rather globalization is being accelerated and defined by the flows of data that embody ideas, information and innovation. The rise and dominance of digital platforms like Amazon, Facebook etc. has changed the economics of doing business across borders and has now more than ever enabled small business and individuals to participate in globalization directly.

Although we can globalization has helped in fostering more interactions by shrinking the geographical boundaries of countries into a global village, it however disproportionately favours advanced countries whose industries are at the frontier in employing digital technologies in their products and operations. Developed nations are the beneficiaries of globalization as their share of world trade and finance has been expanded at the expense of developing countries. Thus, the process exacerbates inequality between the world's regions and poverty in the developing world.

Nigeria, my country as an example, has not benefited from globalization but it is still possible for Nigeria to join the list of countries enjoying the benefits of globalization. Nigeria has been considered to be among the "Next Eleven": the countries identified by Goldman Sachs investment bank as having a high potential of becoming one of the world's largest economies. A population of 193.4 million - growing at over 3% per annum - and about 65% of the Nigerian population is younger than 25 years. These are strengths the Nigerian government can capitalize on by taking policy decisions and invest in infrastructure development to create a conducive environment for trade and investment.

The Nigerian government can also work on developing a strong digital economy through innovation and investments; this will help in improving digital connectivity, digital skills, digital financial services and other core areas of digital development which can help Nigeria fully unleash new economic opportunities, create jobs, transform people's lives and enable individuals and business be well positioned to take full advantage of the new global business and educational opportunities.

After comparing programmes that I felt will help me analyse and better understand the opportunities and challenges of digital innovation, economic globalization and the increasing interdependence of nations, I am applying for the Global Markets, Local Creativities - Global Markets and Development pathway. This masters degree amalgamates my education of Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Finance, and experience in Business Development, Technology Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. The multidisciplinary coursework provides a holistic approach to exploring different topics across Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Economic Development, and how they are affected by Globalization.

My interest and decision to pursue a degree in GLOCAL was fuelled by taking courses in International Business and Management Information Systems (MIS) during the final year of my undergraduate =['? Jdegree. I found my studies enlightening and I greatly enjoyed learning about how Digital technologies zx/. are changing the way business is done across borders and how digital platforms are enabling small businesses and individuals participate in globalization directly. While learning about the impact of new technologies/digital innovation on the global economy, I have come to realise it is important to ask questions and understand how the global economy is currently organised? What are the opportunities and challenges of economic globalization? Greater importance of digital technologies/innovation on globalization and what roles should stakeholders play in ensuring they get the benefits of globalization?

The glocal programme helps me to achieve this
The courses in the study track, Global Markets and Development complements my undergraduate degree and provides the knowledge and skills needed in understanding the trends in today's globalized world along with the role key participants (individuals, businesses and government) should play to tackle complex global and local challenges.

I joined Itanna Innovation Foundation (Honeywell Group Ltd), a Nigerian technology startup investor and accelerator, in November 2018 as Research and Communications Intern. My work focused on capacity development for our partner startups through mentorship, advice, and resources to help these startups succeed. Through Itanna's accelerator programme, I was involved in developing knowledgeable content and resources partner startups could use for their pitches/proposal for both the accelerator programme and Demo day, which is when they showcase their products/service and progress to investors to get more capital for future development. My work at Itanna also involved documenting/telling stories about Women and their involvement in the Nigerian startup scene and this experience helped me understand gender diversity challenges in this industry and what is being done to change the narrative. An article I co-developed on "Making the STEM field attractive to Women" was presented at a high school's Women in Technology seminar and I guess it provided an escape or dream for young girls to believe they can perform equally in the stem field as boys.

I later joined Composite Property Development and Management Ltd, a player in the property development and construction industry as a part time business development trainee. My role focused on researching and documenting the history of the Nigerian construction/real estate industry and I guess looking for ways real estate investment can be innovative. Through the course of my work/research, we were able to create a real estate crowd-funding digital platform (Castle Stash) that enables individuals invest directly and becoming players in the African real estate market. This platform helped reducing the barrier to entry for small players in the real estate market.

My proudest professional achievement is organising a food donation drive for orphanages and widows during the Covid-19 lockdown in Lagos. In 2020, I took a gap year and took up a volunteer teaching and administrative position at Arrows of God Orphanage. To raise funds/get donations for the food drive, I leveraged my contacts from my previous places of work and used social media in creating awareness of the food drive. This campaign was successful since we were able to get partners such as Lagos Food Bank and Honeywell Flour Mills to donate to food drive. People from the community where the orphanages are located also benefited. We were able to feed and provide clothing to over 200 widows.

Since my work at the orphanage involved teaching, I helped in coordinating a group of volunteers who provided lessons to the children while we were in lockdown. My experience working at the orphanage has built my leadearship and problem solving skills and has led me to seeking ways businesses can participate more effectively in helping people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. My work at the orphanage has helped it in building partnerships that enables it provides better assistance to people from a disadvantaged background.

My professional experience also includes an internship at Nestle Nigeria, where I was able to learn about how nutrition and good business goes hand in hand. At Nestle, I experienced firsthand on how social innovation drives the mission of the business and its steps in improving the nutrition of the Nigerian populace. I have also interned at a boutique investment firm and here I got to understand and document the key process and legislation involved in raising capital for a business.

My dissertation would discuss how developing countries can leverage digital innovation/technology to bend the curve of development. I am particularly interested in researching and understanding how Singapore and South Korea, through digital transformation have been able to transform from a developing country to a developed one. What are the lessons for developing countries and how can they fit their strategy to their local concepts. I guess I will use Nigeria as a case study since the potential for digital transformation/globalisation is immense. Nigeria utilising it strengths, it's orange economy

I want to study on how digital innovation and information technology are changing traditional business models, looking specifically at the impact of information technology on customer acquisition, retention and relationship. I am particularly interested in understanding how organizations can leverage Big Data to identify key trends and patterns from customer activities to provide customized customer experiences and the ethical/privacy implications for customers. My goal is to explore the impact of information technology (particularly customer analytics) and how it can be implemented and managed to help organizations become more effective.

My professional experience of working with startups and in the innovation space and courses discussing the impact of Technology Transfer, Innovation adn will provide guidance for my dissertation.

The opportunity to study in a consortium of prestigious Universities in Europe is in itself a privilege given their Global recognition and academic merit. I look forward to an experience which will enable me to learn about European culture and history. I being a Pakistani will present a positive image of my country and act as an ambassador amongst a select few lucky enough to be an Erasmus+ scholar.

I am keen on studying at the consortium of prestigious universities because of its reputation for high quality research and, I believe, will provide an intellectually rigorous and practical environment for me to have a deeper and more knowledge of globalization and digital innovation. My investigations have led me to believe that I will find an atmosphere of intellectual interest and diversity in faculty, students and course work paralleling those I will like to see in myself. The skills acquired from this programme will give me the opportunity for greater roles. Upon the completion of this degree, my goal is to attain a career where I can use my strong business background combined with information technology and innovation skills to help organizations implement and manage information technologies to achieve business and technology goals. I will also like to pursue my dreams of setting up a medical care startup to improve the healthcare industry in Nigeria.

I sincerely hope the admission committee finds my profile well suited for this life-changing opportunity.
