Scholarship / Admission Essay for Master of Health in Sweden [3]
My name is Dinda, and I intend to apply for a Master's Program in Health Economics, Policy, and Management Karolinska Institutet. My high eagerness about health issues drives me to concern about public health issues. I have learned health management topics at the Faculty of Public Health in Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, including two years of professional experience as research and business development staff in the hospital. As a developing country, the National Health System (NHS) in my country is still in the early stage. It has been striving by financial hardship and the inequality of services along with the frequently arising issues of the private out-of-pocket (OOP) expenditure and inaccuracy of healthcare tariffs.
After doing a thesis project about health management, I figured out that health providers faced difficulties with applying health economics methods, and they experienced slow-growth in revenue cases. Based on those reasons, I embarked on taking part in solving those obstacles by pursuing a master's degree and planning to continue my research in the health financing system development and deepen my knowledge relating to health systems globally. Furthermore, my experience as a volunteer in the Floating Hospital had been triggering myself to build a systematic review of the equity in health service for giving an accessible treatment in a remote area of Indonesia. Having a plan to develop a critical analysis of NHS issues to devise appropriate health management that had been developed successfully in Sweden by using a multi-level approach of health systems strengthening.
In my university years, granted as the most outstanding student, I had experienced extensive discussions and seminars about health system development. Otherwise, I put some interest in the social empowerment project. I spent plenty of time in the student board organization and gained leadership prize due to my dedication to conducting several programs. I firmly believe that Sweden has a highly integrated health system instead of a diverse culture and numerous innovations in the medical aspect that are intriguing for learning directly from this country. By continuing my study in Karolinska, it will give a robust focus on the financing of healthcare as well as methods for the economic evaluation of healthcare programs and the measurement and valuation of health outcomes. Moreover, this master program also has a concentration on health economics issues with a global political and economic impact across national borders, particularly in middle and low-income countries, which will be beneficial for my research.
Additionally, I would like to establish a health consultant concerning health economics management in the future. Besides, I dedicate myself to be a researcher conducting high-quality research that will be useful to be a fundamental consideration in policy planning. I envisage myself to collaborate with health system experts to create various positive activities in opening access to high-quality health services to be more affordable and equitably-distributed. Hopefully, I can be a part of ensuring health as a human right regardless of the inadequate level of income or limited access to healthcare. Having those interests, I am eager to pursue doctoral study in order to expand my knowledge as well as extend my career.
