It's apparent from the table that the prominence of English is striking. 1.5 billion people are learning English. In contrast, Chinese learners are only 30 million people, much less than English native learners. However, its native learners seem to nearly reach the number of foreigners studying English. According to the data, the number of countries speaking English is approximately twice that of China.
Talking to other figures, in terms of the number of people studying the language, the amount of French learners is many times that of Spanish learners. Besides, people studying Italian are about one-third of those of Japanese. Another facet, countries where French and Spanish are spoken are nearly twice times many as places using Japanese and Italian respectively. However, French native learners are fairly similar to Japanese learners and Spanish native learners are considerably more than those learning Italian.
