Writing Feedback / COUNTRY BOYS - REACTION PAPER - edit this essay, I'm non native English speaker [2]

"Country boys" is the new type of documentary movie that I have ever watched because it is not base on topic that is mostly issued now a day such as global warming or why people die because of flue. The movie reminds us the high school life that we had just few month ago. I realized there were many things that happened when I was in high school while watching this movie again. The movie is base on the boys who were 15 years old becoming a grown man by solving problems that they have. The reason why this movie is special is because the producer did not edit anything in this movie. There is no such thing as "fact" in this movie and that makes this movie keeps attention from the audience.

At the beginning of the movie, I was worried that I might not understand the situation or emotions that characters will have in the movie because of cultural differences but after watching few part of the movie, I realized that there are differences however, the problem and the answer to that was similar. Only difference was the way that they are solving the problem. There are two main characters in the movie, Cody and Chris. Both young men attend the school call "David school," school for students with problem with the academic issue or habit. Cody is an orphan, his father had many wives and died early so Cody was take care by the forth wife's mother, Liz. I was very surprised by the family background of Cody because having that many wife was possible in fifteen century but it also helped to understand that Cody did not have the love from his dad ether mom because the relation of his family is confusing so there were no one who were able to tell him what is right and wrong. I think it is very important for a boy to have roll model like father or big brother because that encourage young man to be more like adult but he did not have any roll model around so that is why he does whatever he wants to do.

Chris has many family members compare to Cody, he has father, mother, and sister. At first I thought he is going to have little easier life than Cody because there is family who can help him, however, he thinks they don't help him in anything in finance or emotion. It was totally understandable because his father seems not capable of helping him and his mom is busy in what she wants to do. He has little sister whom he needs to take care of while parents are out, attend school and work at the same time. I thought family is always helpful no matter what happens but after I saw this situation, my idea of family was changed that family could be something that can make life harder when they do not think they are together.

Cody starts to change slowly after he lives with Liz because he has someone who he can give him unconditional love. For a boy like Cody, Liz would have been huge impact is his life although she is not consider as important character in the movie because she makes Cody to relies on her and that makes Cody to be more confident in himself in believing he is a lovable person. It reflects in his relationship with Jessica, she is the girlfriend of Cody. She loves Cody so much but the parents of Jessica did not like him at the first but by sharing same hobby with Jessica's father because has same hobby as Cody which is playing music and it encourage them to be more close to each other. I wanted to mention the part where Cody has his concert. He was very happy at that time because he realizes that he could make people happy by doing what he likes and what people say it is wrong.

Meanwhile, Chris Johnson was struggling with his school work and his job. his family was not able to afford enough for living so he need to work in some fast food restaurant as full-time but it was almost impossible for him to do that because he gets to tired after he gets home. The problem I saw with Chris is he does not believe in his family and he tries to do all by himself and that is taught. There is only a teacher who is helping him and fortunately he uses that chance well so he was able to pass the GED test and able to get high school diploma. I think Chris would not have achieved anything without the teacher because she did her best to help him out while he was in great depress with his situation and the future.

At the beginning of this movie, I thought that Chris is going to be more competitive in the future because he is challenging himself to do well in everything. He tries to support his family while supporting himself for education and it is very hard for him to do but he did well and accomplished what he wants. However, I think Cody is more successful is his life because he achieved more important thing which is having someone to look after him. Compare to Chris, Cody does whatever he wants to do in the movie because there are noting can stop him but I still see he is becoming a nice person at the end of the move. He behaves well to other people than before. The reason is because he knows what it feels like to have someone look after him and having a roll model like Jessica's father, he gives confidents to Cody by doing same hobby. Playing music is just one thing but an orphan like Cody felt rely. Chris might be academically successful but I am not sure he is going to be happy with relationship with other people especially family relation but Cody will have happier life than Chris because he already felt the love of family and he knows how to makes people like him.

I think Cody has less hope is class mobility because he is not type of person who does his best to get what he wants. He might be successful by having relationship with people who is close to him and plays music as well I don't think he can do that by himself. Chris is a person, who can be successful in class mobility because he already has experience in many things in bad situation such as earning money and passing GED without support from his family but he was able to get help by the teacher and when he was thinking of going college, the principal of the David school helped him out Indicates that he knows how to get supported by other people. Which is most important thing is becoming successful in social mobility. I think if Chris spends more time studying for attending college, he is going to be very successful.

I thought there are not many poor people in rural America before I came here and watch this movie and maybe it is because I am not from the state. In my home country, we think that most of Americans have life that is just like we watch in Hollywood movie. As soon as I came to State, I knew that I was wrong. There are many regions in state that are not developed yet and even if it is developed city, there are still poor people on the street. In Korea, we do have special area that where poor people live. It is located in small mountain covered with full of small houses. The government did not meant to make that area but it is just crested there. Here in State, I realized that the poor people usually live in container box and it was very interesting for me because small country like Korea has "City gas" or "City water" that every house in a city shares the same gas or water like even though poor houses but when I saw container box houses, I wonder how do they get electricity, gas and water from. Especially Chris's house in the movie because it seems his house was very far from the city.

Country boys is a great documentary movie that should encourage high school students to watch it because most of them think they have what they deserve to have such as computer, iPod and car but after they watch this movie, they are going to be think again and mirror themselves with Cody and Chris.
