Letters / Motivation Letter - M.Sc. Mechatronics [4]
I am being asked to write a letter of motivation for pursuing the Masters degree program within 500 words. While i can ensure the word count, I need help to review whether this counts as a suitable motivation letter.
Growing up, I was fascinated by watching my father repair things around the house, and I would often mimic him, taking things apart and attempting to put them back together. While I found assembling mechanical components intuitive, working with electronics presented a greater challenge, as their operation seemed abstract and lacked the visual feedback I was accustomed to with mechanical systems.
Consequently, I chose to pursue Mechanical Engineering for my undergraduate studies, where I developed a strong foundation in Mechanical Design, excelling in CAD Modeling and kinematic analysis. My involvement in various design projects, including collaborating with Dr. XXXX on a patented Gate-Valve maintenance tool, allowed me to refine my skills in creating practical solutions for real-world problems. Leading the Space Frame team for the MegaATV Challenge, I gained hands-on experience in designing and fabricating structural components, enhancing my technical skills and deepening my appreciation for real-world design challenges. that extend beyond traditional academic learning.
It was only during my Master's at XXXX that sparked my interest in the domain of electricity. I had the opportunity to intern at XXXX where I explored the interplay of fluid dynamics and electrodynamics, uncovering fascinating connections between different physical domains. This experience deepened my appreciation for multidisciplinary integration and highlighted the potential of merging mechanics, electronics, and other fields into cohesive solutions for complex engineering challenges. Unfortunately, during the COVID-19 pandemic both my parents got infected which forced me to make the difficult decision to discontinue my studies and return back home to take care of them.
After the pandemic, I opted to gain practical experience to explore my areas of interest more deeply and solidify my understanding. It was primarily my professional experience as a Product Design Engineer that has been instrumental in shaping my interest in Mechatronics, where I have worked on electro-mechanical systems through all stages of development-from drafting CAD models and kinematic simulations to coding embedded systems and designing circuit schematics. To complement the practical knowledge I gained while working, I pursued part-time studies in Electronic Systems, where I completed a diverse range of courses that equipped me with essential knowledge and skills in both foundational and advanced electronic concepts. This academic pursuit not only deepened my understanding of electronic principles but also reinforced my passion for integrating mechanics with electronics. Recognizing the need to further upskill myself, I am motivated to pursue a specialized Master's program in Mechatronics.
The Mechatronics program at XXXX aligns perfectly with my aspirations, offering a comprehensive foundation. XXXX control course build on my experience with kinematics, advancing my skills in control system modeling for robotics and automation, while XXX Mechatronicscourse will enhance my experience with PCB design and reliable system integration. Although I already have a solid understanding of microcontroller fundamentals, including programming and basic embedded system construction, the focus on embedded systems through courses like XXX Programming and XXX for Mechatronics will deepen my expertise in embedded systems. Moreover, XXXX's project-based learning approach and emphasis on research, especially through the Research Methodology in Mechatronics course, will equip me to tackle real-world challenges and drive technological innovations in the field.
