Detailed Study Plan
Preparation before studying in Tamkang University
Following my high school graduation, Although my father is the main sponsor for my study, I intentionally took a one-year gap to save up and collect funds to be financially prepared, before I shift to study abroad for my bachelor degree. Instead of viewing my gap year as a break from my studies, I see this year off as an opportunity not only to gain work experiences but also growth in my academics. I have secured a full time role in the retail sector, where I am not only able to save up money and make connections but also practice my bilingual language skills. Simply because my workplace is located in PIK, which is a strategic hub where a substantial number of foreign companies are located. Therefore, the majority of my customers are foreigners who come to Indonesia for work and most of them use Mandarin or English as a medium to communicate. As a result, this job not only builds up my savings but also improves my bilingual language skills.
Beside my professional job, I study Mandarin and Global Commerce related knowledge as well, such as the principle of micro & macro economics, accounting, statistics, etc. I dedicated myself to finding balance in work-study life, and committed myself to a self-study routine throughout my free time after work or in my holidays. Additionally, I study Mandarin regularly as well to enhance my communication skills step by step and adapt quickly when I arrive in Taiwan next year and I also study Global Commerce fundamentals to be one step ahead at the time when I start my study in Taiwan. I use lecture videos from MIT Open Courseware and specific YouTube videos for my source of materials.
In conclusion, I have planned a year for professional and academic development to be financially prepared, gain work experiences and to build both academic and language foundation to be used as my advantages during the beginning of my education in Taiwan.
