Undergraduate / The Met Internship Application Essay [NEW]

English is my second language and I feel unable to express myself efficiently. This is a program I really want to get in to. Please help me with this rough draft addressed to The Met Summer Internship Program(max 500 words).

************************
As a young woman born and raised in Taiwan, I feel a connection with Mainland China where my grandparents emigrated from at the end of the Chinese Civil War. My interest in art education is closely related to growing up in a politically dynamic cultural background. Like the United States, Taiwan is an immigrant society. The idea of being "Chinese" and "Taiwanese" is constantly disputed and redefined. However, when people begin to examine the art collections in the National Palace Museum, art education makes us contemplate the origins of our tradition and cultural heritage. It also evokes unity and mutual understanding in a society made of immigrants.

As an international student studying in the United States, I turned to art curatorial work as an extension of my interset in art education. My interest in art curating deepened after I transferred from a community college in Seattle to Baruch College in New York City. I am drawn by the integrity and high quality infused in the art exhibits whether they are in the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. or any other major art museums in New York City.

Now a junior in Baruch College, majoring in arts administration with a minor in communication, I am very interested in China's emerging cultral landscape under an economical and political transformative period. I expect to advance my studies in Chinese Contemporary Art and to work as a museum director or a gallery manager in the future. Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese, I hope to not only facilitate art communication between the East and West, but also improve the relationship between Taiwan and China through cooperation among the museums.

The Metropolitan Museum Summer Internship Program with its multi-national collections and extensive public educational system is a valuable resource that will equip me with the vast knowledge and practices needed to establish art connection wit the rest of the world. I am looking forward to this opportunity and I hope I may be able to contribute my enthusiasm and experiences in this internship program. Thank you.
