Graduate / SOP for geoenvironmental engineering at cardiff university [3]
Hi guys! This is first draft of my SOP. Could you please check and let me know the mistakes? Thank you all!!
I wish to pursue an MS degree in Geoenvironmental Engineering at Cardiff University. I attended --- from 2004 to 2009.
I have always had a great interest to work in petroleum industry, because I knew that a career in petroleum industry would offer me a chance to support the majority energy requirement of human being since most of energy demand today is supplied by hydrocarbon products. That was the main reason why I chose to study in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering department after high school.
After graduation from university last year, I began to work for the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in "Exploration Geophysics" department. After two month work in this department, I was transferred as a Project Engineer to the "Oil Gas Scientific Research Project" Institute "Development of oil and gas deposits" department attached to the SOCAR. Since Azerbaijan has been producing oil almost for 80 years, the systems are old and far from modern technology. My main job in this position is projecting new transportation and storage systems of produced oil and gas regarding the environmental issues. During my 8 month work in SOCAR, I practically saw the oil producing regions of Azerbaijan and now I am aware of the environmental issues of my country caused by petroleum industry.
Azerbaijan is a developing country with big resources of oil and gas and other mineral resources. I know that my country needs experienced and well-educated professionals in the field of petroleum engineering because oil is the most important of the few products exported from Azerbaijan. Energy may be the main factor to sustain our life, but it should not be forgotten that the nature itself is our life actually. My goal is to be a petroleum engineer aware of the importance of the environment. Geoenvironmental engineering is a growing field and I feel that the brilliant education of your university will really enhance my career prospects.
