1. Describing bar graph
The given bar graph show in percentage the contribution of three sectors - agriculture, manufacturing, and business and financial services - to the UK economy in the twentieth century.
The contribution of three sectors changed differently during the period. Specifically, the proportion of agriculture and manufacturing both decreased at the end of the twentieth century while the figure of business and financial services seemed to be upwards. Starting with about 4% in 1900, then increasing to the point of 10% after a half of the decade, the number of business and financial services doubled in just 25 years after that and ended when it possessed more than 30% of the UK economy in 2000.
Unlike the trend of business and financial services, manufacturing had a tendency to decline the whole century. Beginning with 45% of the UK economy, the possession dropped gradually to nearly 40% in 1950, then to approximately 35%, and closed the century at the point of 15%.
On the other hand, agriculture first increased from about 49% to 52%, but then its percentage dropped dramatically to 10% in 1975 and kept on falling to 2% at the end of the period.
We can see from the graph that nowadays, business and financial services play a more important part in the UK economy than manufacturing and British are less focusing on developing agriculture than they used to.

To some people studying the past has little value in the modern world. Why do you think it is important to do so? What will be the effect if children are not taught history?
Many people nowadays find it boring and not so valuable in the modern world to study history, to learn about our ancestors' life or something from the past... But I think that it is really important for us to do so and if children do not study history at school, there will be many bad effects on society.
Firstly, learning history is crucial. We must find out what happened in the past, what our ancestors did for a living and so on. Therefore, we can learn many things from them, from their mistakes or take advantage from what they made or invented. For example, we can see devastating and bloody effects of the Second World War or the Civil War on people and many countries that participated in those wars. And because of all that, we would by any possible ways prevent the third world war and other nonsensical warfare. On the other hand, learning history also help us to find out who we really are. As a famous saying goes: 'like father like son", the more seriously we look at our forefathers' attitudes and ways of thinking, the better we will understand ourselves.
Secondly, there will be many effects on society and children themselves if they are not taught history. First of all, it can be good for children if they do not know about variance between their country and some others or about racial discrimination. Children may find everybody and every nations are the same regardless of their skin or religion. But being unaware of the past, kids will not be grateful for what our ancestors sacrificed to make the world a wonderful place like it is right. They might think that everything just spontaneously happens in their lives and will not respect our peace, our environment, our fresh air and many things else. Children may also do not know about tradition and become identical all over the world. This leads to no culture differences and makes the world less interesting.
In conclusion, history plays a very important part in our lives and society. Our present now is history as the moment passes by, and if we do not care about history, it means that we admit our lives is meaningless in the future. For that reason, children should be taught history at school.
