Undergraduate / "Football has been a test of skill" - Elaboration of an Extra Curricular Activity [3]
Football has been a test of skill, strength, and dexterity to me for over ten years. The last three of which I have spent on a well formed varsity team, whose players had been more of a family than that of a team. Together we have beaten odds at which no one thought we would be able to overcome. The first time I ever played on the varsity team we were two and a half hours away from home, and down on our luck. The other team had us pinned at 21 - 7. We kept at them, throughout the entire first and second quarter. I was playing on the line; it was an honor because I had been moved up due to my innate skill and commitment. Even though we were down our coaches didn't let up, they thought that we could beat this team. We thought we could beat this team, this team that was now chirping and almost having the win in their laps.
That's when the third quarter began, and we played with a completely new vigor. We hadn't come all the way out to lose, and they soon became aware of that. We fought our way back into the standings, and soon gained the edge. They never faltered and it was an extremely rough game. Both teams played with a physicality of the pros, we were at each other's throat, and we stayed noble throughout the game, playing it the way it was meant to be played, there were no sore losers, or excessive unsportsmanship of any caliber. We played the game. The end came and we scraped by a win of 37 - 30, this is one of best adversaries as a team I have ever come up against, and it was great. Years came and went and games were won and lost, but that night was especially important, we all shared the same goal, we worked like the best oiled machine ever to be created by man, and we became family. Football has always been a exuberant activity to me, and will always be even when I'm not there to enjoy it.
Many Thanks
