Undergraduate / My grandfather, Wayne Montrief, The most influential person in your life and why? [NEW]
Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
308 words now. I need help with corrections and I need to make a 250 word version but also a version that can be longer.
The strongest and most influential man I have ever met would be my grandfather, Wayne Montrief. To this day, I have seen no one fight and struggle as hard as he did. Starting in 2006, cancer had struck his body for the second time. He conquered his second attack of melanoma in 2006. Spring of 2008 melanoma had come back, this time being found in a few spots of his body such as his shoulder and knee. Once again, he fought and strove to become healthy again. His health increased until he found out about his fourth encounter of cancer in July 2008. This time being more serious, they found spots on his lungs and malignant tumors on his brain. Having to be operated on his birthday, he stayed strong and positive and pulled through. Wayne went through many surgeries and chemotherapy treatments between 2006 and 2010. Sick or not, Wayne always had a smile when he spent time with his family, which has rubbed off on me. His hard work ethic and kindness were traits of him that I am proud to have inherited. He was a religious man who always prayed and thanked God for his family and friends. My most memorable quote from him was he telling me that I am smart, talented, and will be able to achieve so much in life. Hearing this from him gave me the energy to never give up when working at something. In late 2009, Wayne's health had rapidly decreased. He found out the heartbreaking news in December 2009 that cancer had come back again, this time in his stomach. Knowing he wouldn't be able to survive this attack he still stayed strong, positive, happy, and fought to live as long as he could. He died in mid January in his home with all his family surrounding him.
