Undergraduate / How my goals (studying film) have helped me grow as a student and a person [2]
In my life thus far I have faced so much growth which has helped me to become a hardworking, genuine person. To start off, I was diagnosed with a mild Central Auditory Processing Disorder which enabled me to have an IEP in Elementary and Middle school. Gradually I eliminated all of my modifications that were open to me by working harder in result of my disorder and learning ways to go around my weakness. Because of my work ethic that progressed because of the disorder, I was able to test out of the program by High School. Having to deal with the disorder substantially taught me how to compensate my focus and how to manage my work for High School. Now I believe I have tackled my weaknesses and know how to deal with my issues enough to know that my work ethnic will continue to grow throughout college.
During my sophomore year I began to think of a class that was more careers oriented to take a course during my junior and senior year. Since I grew up seeing my dad taking pictures, I always found photography amusing which, in conclusion, is the class I decided to take. My photography class initially turned my view on everything into a whole new way and I knew that photography was a passion of mine. As my passion for photography progressed, my junior year I was able to visit the Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington. I initially fell in love with the film sets and I was so interested in how production was made that I felt the need to keep coming back to Screen Gems Studios. My junior year I researched about different types of photography, which was when I came across cinematography and I realized that I could incorporate photography with film. I became extremely interested in cinematography which opened my mind to what I could do with this potential career. Because of my strong interest in cinematography, it led me to look at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington's website and read all about the film studies program and found that this was certainly a perfect fit.
I believe studying film will help me grow as a student by having more knowledge then I do now. As a person, I know I will continue to love learning about film and the new possibilities I will face.
