give a statement below explaining what you hope to accomplish by going to the US for advanced study. at least, your statement should include how you will build upon your studies and work experience to date, how you plan to utilize this academic experience after your return to nepal, your short and long- term professional goals, and why you wish to study in the US in particular.
If your life's work can be accomplished in your lifetime, you're not thinking big enough."-Wes Jackson. I think big and will accomplish goals that will make a difference not only in my lifetime but also for the future. My journey begins with a commitment to reaching beyond my community and to help those in underserved areas - in Nepal and internationally.
Having undergone a fruitful and productive curriculum during my undergraduate studies at Kathmandu University, I have established a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Public Health. I have undergone various courses which have introduced me to various theoritical concepts and methods which are widely used in Public Health. In my period as a nursing student,I got an opportunity to visit various communities in urban as well as rural areas and came across several health problems being faced by the people. Consequently, as my final year project, I took up "Active Managemnt of Third Stage of Labor:Assessment of Standard of Care and its Outcome in Dhulikhel Hospital".
Inspiration and enthusiasm well up me at work. I have gained professional experience by working 18 months as a teaching assistant in Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and have to look after both academics and clinical. Having real work experience now I have a balanced view of my interests, potential contributions and priorities, which enables me to make a decision between persuing a career in the hospital or one in acedemic. I find the academic environment more appealing because of high level of intellectual challenge and creativity associated with it as well as the opportunity it provides to follow my research interests in the field of public health. This made me apply for the advanced degree where I can gain integrated knowledge and skills in biostatistics, epidemiology, social, biological and environmental determinants of health , disease prevention and health system management.
I am a citizen of Nepal, which is facing a number of public health challenges like poor access to treatment, low life-expectancy, high infant and maternal mortality rate and vulnerability to many communicable diseases. critical health problems like widespread childhood milnutrition, burden of tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS also persists here. After returning to Nepal, I will use the integrated knowledge in various field of public health and try my best to find out the causes for the problems, prevent them and promote the living of nepali people. In my future, I would like to be a researcher in the field of public health.
I plan to continue my education to master level in an internationally reputable and high ranking research university. In order to find the appropriate graduate program which can fulfill my educational goals and best match my research interest, I have perused different sources and found that United States(a dreamland for many young people) is the best country for young, enthusiastic and hard working people. I have full confidence that my deligence, dedication and genuine interest in learning coupled with this scholarship will alllow me to contribute to my field of interest. I would greatly enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to do so.
