Hi all,

I am applying for FALL 12 MS in CS with systems specialization.

Please evaluate my SOP.

Thanks

Statement of Purpose
I am an individual who has a deep conviction that success comes to those individuals who have the courage to dream. I hail from a family which has always placed tremendous faith in me. They have always given me the freedom to take my own decisions and taught me to face the consequences with grace. My parents have been my mentor's and friends, they have instilled within me a deep faith in one's ability to dream and resolve to realize the dream through sheer exploitation of one's skills to the hilt. My father, a medical doctor by profession had to once give up his much cherished aspiration to pursue further studies from an esteemed university but could not do the same due to constraints. However, instead of losing heart he started envisioning for me prospects of a bright career. Though both my parents are from medical background they did not expect me to take a similar trajectory and as my interest lay in engineering discipline, they encouraged me to pursue it.

My interest in applied science dates back to my school days. During high school, I used to become deeply engrossed in trying to disseminate how electronic gadgets operate and of course Computers, a question started haunting me HOW DO THEY DO THIS?. Soon thereafter, learning about technology started as a hobby has turned into my interest in designing such applications/technology. Along the way, however, I realized that the problem-solving aspect of these computers was what I enjoyed the most. Engineering was a natural career choice after this

I have always been a consistently good scholar and have secured good grades in engineering. A graduate in Computer Science Engineering my short term goal is to be involved in challenging and stimulating computing systems research wherein I would be able to enhance my knowledge in convergence of computer communications. I am aware that in order to realize my career goals, I need to learn much more about current developments and techniques in Programming Systems, Networking and communication and acquire hands-on experience in the field. MS Program will provide me with theoretical understanding, an in depth idea of practical approaches and research skills to enable me to develop an expertise in the core areas. My long term objective is to be involved in something which is revolutionary in the area of computer science. I would like to be engaged in research and development related to Cloud Computing. It is need of the hour and researchers to facilitate a radical change in the way it is looked upon today are urgently needed. I perceive myself, as one such professional, who wielding research as a tool aims at and generating sustainable and dynamic results. I want to turn it into a dynamic instrument, use it to feel the pulse of the computing world and ultimately get involved in the process of innovation.

For me the most engrossing and learning experiences have been while I was involved in projects or internship programs. I would like to elaborate a bit about the various projects I have worked on. During my internship with Saffron eServices, Noida I was responsible for maintaining their existing website as well as adding new functionalities to it. I also assisted in the migration of an old MS Access application, and restructured the large programs.

I did a year long internship with Zensar Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (a CMM level 5 company. Here I worked on the a project titled "Multipoint Multilevel Retail System" which was a point of sale application for medium and large store chains spread across different cities, and led the team during the design phase of the assignment. The purpose of the project was to design a user friendly retail system for a single store-single terminal that was scalable to a multi store-multi terminal environment. This project focused on managing the whole system of a retail chain, with a major focus on point-of-sale and backend transactions.

I also worked on several projects in lieu of my course requirements. One project, titled "Implementation of intranet data exchange server for remote communication", was related to development of a java server side and client side modules and deployment over intranet. Another project was "Implementation of secure and private configurable network." This project aimed at allowing for communication at basically two levels first inter-branch communication and intra-branch communication. This approach provides user a secure way for his communication whether it's in his office or between his office. CPT allows users to quickly simulate with the user and, eliminate keystrokes to reduce data entry costs and still maintain the high level of accuracy required in forms processing applications.

Out of my own sense of initiative I also helped a local business 'Ajastra Media Pvt. Ltd.'(it is a marketing business with focus on Advertising on Cabs) in implementing the functionality of QR codes to promote their marketing business. Also embedded a car location GPS based mechanism through which they can locate all their cabs within the city through a static IP.

Here I would like to elaborate a bit on how these projects benefitted me a lot. Evidently, projects helped in fostering a firm grounding in concepts. Moreover, while working on them along with studies and co curricular activities in college I developed the skill of time management and multi tasking. Though initially I did loose on securing as good grades as I desired in my first and second year I did with time develop ability to allocate adequate time to all my causes judiciously. Moreover I do not feel that grades are the sole indicators of a comprehensive grasp of any subject. My final year thesis was entitled 'How secure is Cloud'. This research questioned the security issues related to adoption of Cloud Computing Technology. The security problem becomes more complicated under the cloud model as new dimensions have entered into the problem scope related to the model architecture, multi-tenancy, elasticity, and layers dependency stack. In this research report I introduced a detailed analysis of the threats to cloud computing model. This research primarily concerns to the threats to this computing model and possible remedies for that.

Besides, pursuing engineering I also tried to keep enhancing my technical skills and while I was in third year I became the first Sun Certified Java 6 Programmer in my college. Later on, I proceeded to become Sun Certified Java Web Application Developer. I developed interest in Cloud Computing in my final year of baccalaureate engineering program. It was at this time that I pursued a Certificate Course in applications and deployment of Cloud Computing platform which made me realize that I had a penchant for this area. I had Cloud Computing as my seventh semester colloquium project and due to the same I too was chosen to organize an informative seminar for other students about this emerging technology.

A very versatile and dynamic individual I not only am keen on my academic growth but also indulge in pursuit of hobbies and aesthetic interests. What engrosses me most is web development and designing, Graphics designing, Social media influence metrics etc. on the basis of my competence I was entrusted the responsibility of being a Coordinator of Robotics event at Encore'08 at BBDIT Ghaziabad. I also participated in National level Robotics competition at Techkriti 08, IIT Kanpur where my entry stood seventh amongst numerous entries.

I am also a sports enthusiast and like playing Soccer, Swimming. I was also Captain of college soccer team, represented college in several inter college competitions. I also played for the college basketball team. Eloquence in speech made me win several prizes in elocutions and debate competitions. I also am interested in blogging and reviewing startups. I also like to be play an active role in community service and have from time to time volunteered in Blood Donation camp organized by Rotary club.

To go abroad for further studies is a well thought over decision. I wish to earn an MS degree in Computer Science. US inevitably was my destination as it has the most advanced universities to its credit. I have spoken to my professors, seniors and colleagues about my choice of University, and have applied to ****** because of it's repute. I am amazed at the strength of its research facilities and its rich and vigorous curriculum. ....university apart from its outstanding research infrastructure also extends support to students and researchers with state and federal grants or grants sponsored by major companies. The possibility of learning under the guidance of its most qualified and experienced faculty members is one that enthralls me a lot. I appreciate the teaching pedagogy which does not harp on conventional classroom teaching methods and rather compels the students to think out of the box. I am confident that my confidence, aptitude for learning, strong determination, resilience, and positive approach will facilitate my growth as a scholar.

I am confident that I will be an asset to ... Looking forward to a learning and ennobling experience.
