Scholarship / 'Leadership skills and volunteering at Civil Air Patrol' personal [2]

Since I can remember I have always had the passion to learn in order to help others to succeed as their successes will also be mine. This passion grew more and more each day, which made me, realize what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to pursue Actuarial Science, have my own business and establish an international not for profit foundation to aid children with cancer.

For 12 years I have been a volunteer at Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the USAF (United States Air Force). Throughout the years I held multiple positions in my squadron which assisted me move up the chain of command, in both grade and rank. From the beginner level grade of Cadet Airman Basic I progressed through all of the enlisted grades before becoming a Cadet Major. Earning the grade of Cadet Chief Master Sergeant, I was chosen for the position of First Sergeant, in the squadron, this is the highest rank and grade for an NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge). I then succeeded in becoming the NYC Group NCOIC of the year. Continuing the CAP cadet program I earned the grade of Cadet Major; and was selected as the squadron Cadet Commander, the highest position at cadet officer level. As First Sergeant, and Cadet Commander I was able to help in the development of cadets.

Aviation High School students have one of the longest school days in New York City. My day began at 5:00am and my academic schedule commenced at 7:15am or "Period 0" and my last class ended at 4:15pm or "Period 10". After enduring a days worth of honor and advanced placement classes I participated in various extracurricular activities, tutoring and different clubs. Being a member of nearly every organization such as AFJROTC, F.I.R.S.T Robotics, Debate Team, Skills USA- VICA, Flying Club, Volleyball Team, etc. arriving home around 11:00pm. This dedication served to improve my time management skills enabling me to better achieve my goals.

I am currently the President of "The 3C's (Cure for Cancer Club) at Nassau Community College. Establishing this club, has been a lifelong dream and I appreciate all of the support we have received. Our activities include but are not limited to fundraisers, walks, and engaging with patients. In fact this weekend I will be participating in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk as a crew member. I furthered my involvement by becoming a St. Judes Ambassador, and a certified instructor of the Martial Arts Therapy for Children with Cancer.

As a math major, I have been able to express my mathematical talent and passion for finance as well as open my mind in ways that I could never do in any other field. Therefore, I am willing to participate in whatever programs and activities which are needed to complete my goals in this institute. I am very committed to fulfilling my goals and as such, I will push myself in all ways to succeed and graduate so that I may fulfill my creative dream and to be a proud part of the Actuarial Science community.

From my years of learning, I have accomplished many goals that exceeded my expectations. I learned leadership skills, how to be united with a team, respect, to be performance ready, and most of all to work hard and enjoy every second of it. To coin a phrase, "I walk through this world but once, let me leave it that much better than what I found it."
